Ultherapy FAQs
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a non-invasive procedure that utilizes ultrasound technology to help tighten and rejuvenate the surface of your skin. The procedure does not require any needles, surgery, or anesthesia, and there is no downtime afterwards. For these reasons, Ultherapy has become a popular approach to tightening and lifting the skin to remove fine lines and wrinkles, and provide an overall rejuvenated appearance. An added benefit of Ultherapy is that the ultrasound technology allows the doctor to see deep within the surface of the skin, which leads to safer and more precise treatments.
How does Ultherapy work?
During the procedure, your doctor will use a device to send ultrasound sound waves beneath the surface of your skin. The ultrasound waves deliver heat to the inner layers of the dermis without causing damage to the surface of the skin. The heat causes the tissue to contract and stimulate the body’s natural healing process. The skin responds to the heat by creating new collagen, which will eventually contribute to the tightening of your skin. Ulthera actually utilizes your body’s own natural healing process by rebuilding the collagen fibers within your skin. As such, Ultherapy results in a very natural appearance for the patient.
What parts of the body can benefit from Ultherapy?
Ulthera can be used anywhere on the face and upper neck. It can be used in specific areas of the face and neck, or it can be used over the entire area.
Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy?
In general, healthy adults with skin that has begun to sag or is beginning to lose its firmness are candidates for Ultherapy. Ultimately, only your doctor can decide if you can undergo the procedure and will benefit from it.
Is Ulthera painful?
Ultherapy treatments are typically well tolerated by patients. Some patients report a mild discomfort or stinging feeling, but others report nothing at all. Anesthesia of any type is not required for Ultherapy. If needed, over the counter pain medications are sufficient to dull any associated pain.
How long is the recovery period for Ultherapy?
You can return to your daily activities immediately after Ulthera. There is no bruising after Ultherapy, and any swelling is minimal. Mild pinkness of the skin is the typical side effect, and this normalizes within an hour. For these reasons, Ultherapy is truly a no-downtime treatment.
When will I see results?
Most patients report a noticeable lifting shortly after the treatment. Many patients experience firmer, tighter skin with a more even appearance and fullness within days of the procedure. The full results will be seen over the course of two to three months.
Is Ultherapy safe?
Ultherapy a non-invasive procedure that utilizes ultrasound technology, which is very safe and has been in use in the medical community for over 50 years. Ulthera passed the strict FDA approval process in 2009, and is an excellent alternative to invasive cosmetic procedures.
