Laser Tattoo Removal FAQ

How does laser tattoo removal work?

Dr. Daniel Behroozan uses the Alex TriVantage laser system in his practice for tattoo removal. This system is one of the most advanced tattoo removal devices in use today. Laser removal works by targeting the darker areas of tattoo ink within the skin. Pulsating

light energy is used to break down the tattoo ink so that it can be naturally absorbed into the body. The Alex TriVantage is noninvasive and safe, and reduces the occurrence of pain and scarring.

Is it painful?

Laser tattoo removal is a minimally painful procedure. The Alex TriVantage’s unique pulsating laser action helps minimize the amount of discomfort you may experience. Additionally, a local anesthetic can be used to further reduce pain, if necessary.

How quickly will I see results?

It typically takes about 6 sessions, spaced at 6 week intervals, to fully remove tattoo ink from the skin using the Alex TriVantage laser. The amount of sessions required varies based on skin type, size, color, and location of the tattoo. The sessions are spaced at 6 week intervals to give the skin a proper amount of time to heal between sessions.

Why should I see a doctor who specializes in laser tattoo removals?

Each tattoo is unique, due to its colors, placement in the skin, and the skill of the original tattoo artist. Some “tattoos” may even be accidental, such as abrasion marks from dirt or debris caught under the skin after a motorcycle accident. If a tattoo has been applied evenly to the skin, it is easier to remove; however, in many cases, the tattoos have been placed deep within the skin and across varying layers of the dermis, making removal more difficult. Darker colors tend to be easier to remove, while lighter colors can be more stubborn. Due to the varying factors involved, it is important to find a doctor, like Dr. Daniel Behroozan, who is highly experienced and specialized in the technique of laser tattoo removal.

Why should I choose Dr. Daniel Behroozan for my laser tattoo removal procedure?

Dr. Behroozan is a board-certified dermatologist who is an expert in tattoo removals. His vast amount of experience allows him to treat your unique skin and tattoo type with utmost precision and care.

What post-procedural instructions must I follow?

Following your laser session, your skin may swell slightly or feel irritated. You can use a cold compress on the treatment area to reduce swelling and discomfort. Additionally, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection. Blistering and whitening of the skin is common and normal after the procedure. It will take about 4 weeks for the skin to heal completely following the procedure. During this time, you should keep the area clean and dry, and use only mild soaps on the area. Your doctor may instruct you to use an antibiotic cream or moisturizer following the treatment. You can return to normal activities within a few hours. Sunscreen must be worn on the area for at least 3 months following treatment.
