Lips are one of our most prominent facial features. Many people define their beauty by their full, plump lips. With recent advancements and a variety of new filler options, lip enhancements have become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. These treatments can be performed within 15-30 minutes, with minimal downtime.

Fillers are flexible substances that are injected under the skin surface where they improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by increasing or replacing the skin’s volume. They are often used to plump lips, fill hollow cheeks, improve scars and lift deep folds.

Collagen is often used to treat very fine wrinkles around the mouth, or “smoker” lines, and to add volume to thin lips. Results last approximately three to four months.

Bovine collagen, the first form of collagen, has been in use for more than 25 years. Nearly five years ago, human based collagen, or collagen derived from human cells, was approved by the FDA. The advantage of human collagen is that it does not pose any allergy risk, while bovine collagen does and requires a skin test skin testing prior to treatment. A numbing cream can be applied about 20 minuets before treatment to minimize discomfort.
